Earring Challenge #4

The fourth earring challenge required a hollow form pair of earrings. No circles could be used. Very challenging for me not to use circles so I created hollow form earrings out of triangular pyramid designs. I thought of a prism but I didn't want too much detail. 

Instead of me completely closing the back of the hollow form I left an opening to look through creating a surprise of interest. 

Free Hand Project

I created my own form of an armband and cuff. I created two cuffs one for the forearm and wrist as seen in the picture. I incorporated bezel stones, designs, copper and brass metal, and indulged in anticlastic and synclastic forming for visual interest and distinct design aesthetic. I created rectangular cut outs for the chain to connect both armband and arm cuff. 

Earring Challenge #3

The third earring challenge was to create a pair of circular based earrings. All aspects of circular forms were encouraged for several depictions of round visual interest. 

I used wire and copper and brass sheet metal. I created domes, pierced circles entwined with wire, and textured flat surfaces for my design. 

As a designer I am very intrigued with geometric shapes my favorite being circles. Expressed in several designs I use circles as a peak of interest. With an overload of such a shape I incorporated a lot of wire anticipating more interest throughout the shapes. After creating the overall design, I decided to eliminate the heavy amount of wire used at the bottom earring so I can create more visual interest to the end. I made so many circles to look at which I am very satisfied with, the wire isn't necessary. 

Earring Challenge #2

The second earring challenge was in the form of line. Of Line variety for the design.   I chose to use several forms of wire. I used four types of wire materials to manipulate, distort, and create spiral, coiled, and boxed designs as a linkage pair. 

This earring challenge, I made a 2 in 1 earring. I designed an earring necklace where the overall piece is worn as an EarNecklace and able to be detached and worn as Dangler earrings separately and re-attached at it's leisure. 

 

Earring Challenge #1

This first earring challenge was my favorite earring design thus far. This challenge required me to use several mixed media materials to create a pair of earrings. No form of metal could be used. 

My inspiration derived from the style of Betsey Johnson, one of my favorite designers. I created this pair of earrings directly from imagination. I used buttons, plastic stones, chain material, decorative paper, colorful string, and colorful paper clips in substitute for wire. 

My professor took this photo of me wearing it because of my complimentary shirt. 

Tube Setting

For my final piece I set 5 tube settings in the crevices and inside the curves of designated pierced spaces. 

Final Tube Setting Design 

I wanted to create an arm cuff for my tube setting project relating to the Aztec architecture aesthetic. After using synclastic forming techniques and adding a petina to the final design. I was satisfied with the minimalistic geometric cut out designs focusing on the tiny accents of the cz's.

My overall tube setting project was more challenging than my sample piece. Many hours invested In my design where I kept altering the design techniques. My inspiration stemmed from Aztec Archictecture. I mainly worked from cutting out rather than drawing. 

A few suggestions from my metals/jewelry design advisor I simplified the design to less materials. 

Displayed are the several changes and my overall chosen design. 

I admired this design while creating this arm cuff. Sometimes when soldering metals especially massive pieces, it's challenging to secure them accurately 

Although I wasn't able to keep this similar design, I want to create this later for a future Project. 

Tube Settings

My tube setting project was slightly challenging but not like how I expected. I enjoyed building and constructing the elements of setting tubes in my overall cuff. My sample tube setting was placed in brass tubing as a ring. I wanted my sample to be wearable and simply dimensional. Understanding the basics and security of tube setting was very fun for me. I used 3.5 millimeter cz stones.
